XPlite is a system optimization tool for Windows XP. Unlike other applications that optimize your system by making sure that everything is working in order, XPlite removes content from your system so that less resources are used. So, the less resources are used by Windows, the more resources are free for other applications.

XPlite doesn't really offer you any help along the way. It just lists all the components that are installed on your computer, separated in a few categories. You then have to uncheck the components that you want to uninstall. Next to the components and the categories is a description of them, telling you what they do. There is also a link to XPlite's website, which has more help. After you uncheck the components and click on "Next", they will get erased. There is another feature that allows you to track down and erase old update installation files and other files that are not being used by the operating system.

The free version of this application allows you to remove only but a few system components. You have to manually browse the list to find components that you can delete with the free version, which is very annoying indeed.

Perhaps a "smart" mode that would delete the least-used components by the average user, would be of great help for unexperienced users.
